Otoplasty is the cosmetic procedure that restores a more normal appearance to the ears by altering their size or contour so they do not protrude. Following surgery, you will wear a dressing or bandage to ensure that your ears are held in the new position. The dressing is worn constantly for four to five days. Most patients return to work in one week after surgery, and may resume athletic activities in approximately ten days. After an otoplasty, you will see an immediate dramatic improvement in your appearance. No aftercare procedures will be required. Q: Will I have a scar?
A: While scars are the result of any surgical procedure, the incisions are made in the back of the ear in the natural crease and will be unnoticeable several months after surgery.

Q: When can I resume my normal activities?
A: Adults may return to work in five days, while children may return to school in a week.

Q: Is general anesthesia necessary?
A: No. Adults who undergo this procedure are usually given a combination of local anesthesia and sedation. In most cases, children who undergo this procedure are given general anesthesia.
